Are you having trouble seeing the content on Photodocs / Versions of Truth?
To a very large extent the web is like the wild west used to be: sometimes laws are broken, re-interpreted or simply ignored. As a result, it’s very hard for a website designer and proprietor to create content that looks or acts the way it should. For everyone. The biggest complicating factors are inconsistencies and errors in the way web browsers interpret the pages they are sent from the website. Things have been getting better and the latest versions of some browsers are quite good, even excellent, at interpreting web content. So here are some suggestions:
- With due respect to Microsoft, their web browser is among the worst behaved when it comes to processing web pages; if you use IE, I’d urge you to try an up-to-date alternative. To be honest, I can’t begin to do all the technical contortions and backflips necessary to make things look OK in Internet Explorer. When I was a younger man… I gave it a shot; now I’m older and… life is too short. Sorry.
- Among the free browsers available for Windows users, I’d recommend any of those developed out of the Mozilla project; for example, Firefox, is an excellent choice. Firefox is also available for Mac OS X and other operating systems.
- Don’t forget Opera.
- The Apple / Mac browser called Safari is also very good. In fact it is the only browser that takes colour profile information into account when it displays web image files such as JPGs and PNGs. To get the best out of Versions of Truth, I’d recommend Safari. Unfortunately (or not) you must buy a Macintosh in order to run it!
- Finally, get in touch. There are sure to be problems that are mine to solve. I do my best to be the local technical know-it-all, but frankly, given the time constratints, I’m much more interested in doing the research, writing the articles and making the images.
